ELECTRONICON launches the first MV Surge Capacitor in self-healing technology- By Electronicon

Keeping with its tradition of dry products, ELECTRONICON launches the first MV Surge Capacitor in self-healing technology.

To offer environmentally friendly, leak-proof and safe products to the market ELECTRONICON has developed a full MV range in totally dry construction. This range is now extended by the launch of a new range of Surge Capacitors - Series E93 - for the protection of transformers and Electrical machines. Surge capacitors are required to reduce the steepness of the wave front of the surge and protect the turn to turn insulation. Generally used along with a surge arrestor, the surge capacitor is one of the most important protection elements to increase the longevity of electrical machines.

These capacitors are manufactured using Metallised Polypropylene film and filled with solid PUR, thereby making them the first with dry technology. A special plastic coating makes these tubular type capacitors a step away from the conventional bulky ALLFILM oil filled capacitors. With their simple connections ELECTRONICON surge capacitors are a big advantage for the indoor surge protection requirements. Consider this, a 0,25uF /12kv capacitor from E93 series weighs 4.1kg compared to a whopping 15kg of the capacitors common in the market.

ELECTRONICON is one of the world’s leading companies manufacturing capacitors using Metallised Polypropylene films. The manufacturing is done at its state of the art plant in Gera in central Germany, which incidentally, is also one of the oldest capacitor manufacturing facilities in the world. Founded in the late 1930s by Siemens+Halske, the plant then changed the name to RFT Kondensatorenwerk Gera before it was privatised in 1994 and came to be known as ELECTRONICON Kondensatoren GmbH, as it is today. ELECTRONICON manufactures Metallised Polypropylene capacitors for Power Factor Correction in Low and Medium voltage, Power Electronic Capacitors and capacitors for motor and lighting application.

Other technical advantages include-
- Completely insulated plastic body
- Dry construction: no risk of leakage
- Easy-to-fix M8 terminations
- Self Healing
- One diameter for different values for standardised manufacturing
- No need of additional mounting
- Light weight, easy to handle
- Available in 3kv, 6kv 12kv
- Capacitances 0.25uF, 0.5uF, 1uF
- In built discharge resistor <75Volts in 2min
- Temperature class TKL -40 /+60C
- According to IEC 60871-1
