The minister congratulated the officials of Ministry of Mines for the bumper success of non-coal mining lease auction done for the first time in country in Chhattisgarh and for successfully handing over large number of exploration reports to states. He stated that the State Government will get additional amount of Rs 4413 crore over the life of lease in addition to royalty, district mineral foundation (DMF), national mineral exploration trust (NMET) contribution. The minister recalled that there was lot of criticism regarding the earlier mining allocation process wherein mines were handed out to miners on discretionary basis by the state governments and the process lacked transparency. He mentioned that the money generated from mining will be used for the welfare of common man.

He stated that a Rs 200-crore corpus has been created to fund the activities of Steel Research Technology Mission of India (SRTMI) for promoting research in iron and steel sectors and turn the country into a metallurgical hub and for producing good quality steel in the country.

The Guest of Honor- Shri Harish Rawat, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand effusively praised ETV for organising the dialogue series in the state of Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister commented that small states get a voice because of such platforms. The Chief Minister demanded that States should be made equal stakeholders in the mining sector and suggested that mining should be carried out in a scientific manner. He cautioned against the threat of cheaper metals and dumping from China in the face of the collapse in demand in other parts of the world and India should remain guarded to have higher GDP growth. He made an impassioned plea that Uttarakhand should be given its due as its forest wealth and water from its rivers contributed immensely in enriching the environment. He complained that vested interests were trying to derail Uttarakhand’s development by putting road blocks in the garb of environment protection. He stated that local wisdom should be given due consideration while making plans for tackling issues like Ganga rejuvenation, Yamuna rejuvenation or development of hydel electricity.

The Special Guest Shri Ranjeet Rawat, Industrial Advisor to Uttarakhand Chief Minister, mentioned that positive news should be highlighted rather than sensationalism by the media. He lamented the trend amongst some media channels of not giving adequate prominence to constructive news.

The Special Guest Shri Rakesh Sharma, Principal Chief Secretary to Uttarakhand Chief Minister, said that the minor minerals are all under the jurisdiction of forest and environment department and the mining department does not have much control over the mineral wealth of the state.
