CII – Coimbatore Zone organised the first edition of the National Higher Education Conclave with the theme “Transformational Change in Higher Education: Global Excellence through Governance, Research and Innovation” on 29– 30 November, 2013 at Coimbatore.
The aim was to encourage an open and inclusive format for discussion and the sharing of ideas, meetings of minds, directed at points of discussion, difference, or difficulty around the key streams of the conference vis-à-vis the themes.
The two day National Higher Education Conclave sessions focused on the topics relating to the management, administration and teaching excellence with paper presentations and case studies that are needed for the institutions to bench mark their strategic growth & development.
Around 550 delegates participated in the conclave from all over India.
The speakers during the two days sessions were representatives from Tamil Nadu Government, AICTE & UGC, national accreditation bodies, representatives from government and private universities and colleges, senior academician, and senior representatives from the industry.
The report by CII– Deloitte on “Status of Higher Education in South India” was released during the Conclave's Inaugural Session. The CII- Deloitte Report details the present status of Higher Education in India with a focus on Southern India.
The report aims to highlight the major concerns of higher education institutions- specifically in the southern states - and the challenges that need to be addressed at different policy, process, and control levels. The report also includes an in-depth analysis of the present policies and its impact on the higher education sector in India in the future. It also provides snapshots of the performance of all the southern states and UTs in the higher education sector.
The report also intends to project the concerns and challenges faced by the promoters/ administrators of higher educational institutions in India and highlights the areas where improvement and support is required from the government and regulatory bodies including issues like enhancing quality and quantity of higher education, issues of governance & policies, support for academic & physical infrastructure, and greater financial resources etc.
