A one-day national conference on road construction, 'Fast Track Road Construction in India' was organised by IBK Media in Delhi on May 10, 2012 in association with Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) and IRF's India chapter.
RP Indoria, former Director General, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, the Guest of Honour emphasised on reducing the trust deficit in the field of road construction. "More than 10,000 crore of deficit is in dispute," he said. "RBI treats non-secure finance as 'unsecured loan' though there are mechanisms to ensure that lenders get revenue whatever the promoter's situation"
Puneet Kumar, Director, Highways said that the connectivity of 20,000km of two and four lane roads is to be provided in the 12th five-year plan. "Connectivity will also be provided to the economic Winterlands," he sais. Jaswant Kumar, Chief General Manager of National Highways of India (NHAI) informed the delegates that for its various stages of work including 1000km of Expressways and 700km of bypasses, ring roads and flyovers, NHAI was involving the urban development ministry too.
Rajeev K Chanana, Chief Executive, Giertsen Tunnel AS, Norway gave information on his company's innovative technology on tunnel building. Sanjay Bajaj, General Manager, Wirtgen India; Sekhar Dey, Territory Manager, Caterpillar; K Sitaramanjaneyulu, Head – Pavement Evaluation, CRRI; A K Sen, Senior Vice President, India Poly Roads Pvt Ltd; Colonel AK Tiwari, Managing Director, Ooms Polymer Modified Bitumen Pvt Ltd; Vishal Thombare and Assistant Engineer, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation; Vivek Rastogi, Managing Director of Feedback Infrastructure Services Pvt Ltd and N K Sinha, Chairman, IRF India chapter also spoke on the occasion.
While Debnil Chakraborty, Senior Vice President, SREI Infrastructure Equipment Finance brought forth many aspects of financing the purchase of equipment, Prof M N Sreehari, Advisor to the Government of Karnataka on Traffic, Transportation and Infrastructure spoke on various technologies and solutions to be kept in mind for traffic management.
Various new technologies, solutions and methodologies on road construction, traffic management, mobility on roads, road safety and financing of projects were discussed at the conference.
