Power service engineers received free training and advice in mechanical pipe joining solutions that help to save installation time and reduce total installed cost, at the Victaulic Power Technical Forum in Noida in December.
Experienced Victaulic engineers delivered an evening session of technical education, with participants able to examine products and mechanical pipe joining technologies up close, as well as observing pipe-grooving demonstrations to help explain how grooved-end pipe joining works.
The range of systems demonstrated included Vic-Press, the industry’s first ANSI Schedule 10S pipe sized press system designed for off-the-shelf ASTM A-312 Schedule 10S stainless steel pipe, and the Victaulic Advanced Groove System (AGS) accommodating large diameter piping sizes up to 60”/ 1500 mm. A range of fast installation fire protection products, including FireLock EZ Style 009H rigid coupling and Victaulic FireLock NXT alarm valves, were also discussed.
In addition, Victaulic Installation-ready technology was also demonstrated. Designed to address the industry’s need to compress project schedules and remain competitive, it is the fastest and safest pipe-joining method currently available on the market. Victaulic installation-ready couplings provide installers with a solution that installs ten times faster than other pipe-joining methods such as welding, brazing, soldering or flanging.
The well-attended event proved popular both with experienced engineers seeking to broaden their knowledge and younger engineers unfamiliar with the type of technology. There are now plans to hold more forums in 2012.
“Ease and speed of installation and reduced downtime are amongst the major interests of engineers, contractors and owners in the power industry today,” said Rohit Nehru, Victaulic Market Manager - Power. “The technical forum provided a great opportunity to get hands on with the latest pipe joining technologies, and share some valuable insights.
Typical applications in the power industry employing Victaulic products include utility and process piping, specialty applications and fire protection systems. Power projects in India using Victaulic systems include the Ranar Pratap Sagar Dam, BHEL Bhopal, the Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project and Tata Steel CPP.
“Victaulic pioneered grooved-end pipe joining technology over 85 years ago”, added Nehru, “and today the Victaulic grooved-end system of couplings, fittings, valves and accessories are used in a wide range of projects and applications throughout the world.”
