June 24, 2013, New Delhi: Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), India’s premier electricity exchange, has bagged this year’s PowerLine award for the ‘Best Performing Power Exchange’. The award was presented by Hon’ble Minister of State for Power, Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia at a gala ceremony held in the capital on Friday.
Mr. Venkat Chary, Chairman, IEX and Mr. Rajesh K. Mediratta, Director, IEX received the award from the Hon’ble Minister on behalf of the Exchange. This is the second time in a row IEX bags this award. The Award recognises excellence and outstanding performance demonstrated by IEX. IEX has consistently outperformed its peers when it comes to the power markets. IEX has played a very meaningful role to bring in competition in the sector which is the underlying spirit of the Electricity Act, 2003.
Receiving the award, Mr Venkat Chary, Chairman, IEX said, “It was a matter of great pride to win the Powerline Award for the second time in a row. At IEX we revolutionalised power trading by operationalising open access for 1 MW and above consumers. We aspire to build on this, and aim to take the power markets to higher levels”
The winners were selected by an eminent panel of jury, following an extensive research. The Jury for the Award included: Shri. RV Shahi, Former Power Secretary, and Chairman of the Awards jury; Mr.H L Bajaj, Former Member, Appellate Tribunal for Electricity and Former Chairman, Central Electricity Authority; Mr.CP Jain, Former CMD, NTPC Ltd; Mr. Uddesh Kohli, Former CMD, Power Finance Corporation; Mr. R K Narayan, Former CMD, Power Grid Corporation; Dr. SL Rao, Former Chairman, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission; and Mr. V Subramanian, Former Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
